LUNCH WITH PHYLLIS BARBER – NOON, SUNDAY, AUGUST 22, 2021
LUNCH WITH PHYLLIS BARBER
Please join us for lunch with Phyllis Barber, Coyote Tales special guest storyteller and author of, THE DESERT BETWEEN US. During the luncheon, Phyllis will share her remarks, answer questions, and sign copies of her book. Please know that all after expense proceeds from this event will benefit The DOVE Center of St. George, Utah.
Phyllis’ ninth book tells the story of camels bought in the Middle East by the U.S. Government in 1858. The animals were used to explore the possibility of a military road between Albuquerque and the Colorado River–a waterless terrain. A road was built later and became the origin of Route 66. The book’s main characters are Geoffrey Scott–an abolitionist/roadbuilder, a camel named Adababa, a Mojave Indian who has a mixed history with Geoffrey Scott, an angry polygamist in St. Thomas, Nevada, and his third wife, Sophia Hughes, who becomes the female lead in a love triangle.
Copies of Phyllis Barber’s novel, The Desert Between Us, will be available for sale at August 21st’s event and at The Book Bungalow beginning in August. The Book Bungalow is an independent bookstore located in downtown St. George at the corner of 100 West and Tabernacle Street. They are open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 am to 6 pm.
